Joomla to Drupal

Hi,

Well the old is swept away and in with the new. I had  a choice. Upgrade joomla fom v1 to 1.5 or start again with something else. It's taken weeks of thought and effort but the result is that we are now running on Drupal 5.

So Why Drupal. Well, I should start by saying that Joomla is absolutely totally and utterly brilliant. That is if you want a relatively simple site. But having used it in anger for well over a year I've become increasingly fustrated with its shortcomings. In particular the lack of decent SEO, the whole section/caegory layout that prohibits nested categories and the total lack of any decent gallery support of any type and what seesm to me to be a worrying trend of increasing number of commercial component add -ons. Regarding a gallery component I've tried them all - no really - I mean all (well opensource ones anyway) - and all are inadequate in some respects and although the gallery2 bridge was great in the early days, support has become increasingly erratic to the point of non-existent.

So joomla 1.5 emerged and I thought hoorah, ony to find it fixed non of the major issues, although I appreciate it was all about getting their house in order and I expect future versions will go from strength to srength. But that still left me with nowhere to go right now. Enter Drupal. Yes it's really hard to learn but I think I've mastered the basics and have only attempted here to duplicate what I already had. But the sheer flexibility of Drupal will hopefully let me build greater things in the future. So big thanks to the Drupal guys. Upwards and onwards....
